Since 2008, Uriel Solar has filed fundamental patents, hired exceptional material scientists, and in November 2009 established a development facility in the Thousand Oaks, California area. The company is in the final development stage of its advanced “3rd generation” technology. This technology, the “Hybrid Tandem” solar cell represents a new direction in thin film photovoltaics. Completion of the Hybrid Tandem demonstration is expected in late 2018/early 2019.

Uriel Solar won the Shell ‘Game Changer’ program award in 2017. This award represents a significant milestone and vote of confidence in the capability of the advanced solar technology. The Shell Game Changer program “identifies and nurtures unproven ideas from innovators around the world – ideas with the potential to make a huge difference to the energy future.” A team of dedicated Shell technical and scientific experts that included solar PV industry specialists performed extensive due diligence on the Uriel Solar technology.

Uriel Solar has raised over $7.5MM dollars. We are currently raising a $7 million Series B round for an 18 month development effort. This will demonstrate our Cadmium Zinc Tellurium/Crystal Silicon (CZT/c-Si) hybrid tandem solar cell with efficiency near 27%, show repeatable and stable performance, and establish film growth criteria for large area deposition. We will begin transfer of the technology to a prototype production deposition platform.

Uriel Solar plans to launch the next generation of solar energy technology, as opposed to the next incremental change to existing product. Uriel Solar offers an opportunity to institutional as well as private investors.

Exit Strategy:

Commercialization of the new Hybrid Tandem technology has several paths forward. Uriel anticipates one of two likely exit strategies following the demonstration of the Hybrid Tandem and a prototype production deposition platform: Either licensing of the technology and deposition platform to silicon panel manufacturers all over the world, which could include a public stock offering (IPO), or merger/acquisition by a strategic business partner to move Uriel into full production manufacturing. The value of the company with both the tandem technology and the proof of scalability should be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
